2009 Literacy Goals
Mathematics Domain Strategies:
- Once a fortnight, have students answer an investigate/practical question from the text, but instead of the student simply supplying the answer have the student answer the question and include a detailed description of the thought processes and techniques they used to come to that conclusion. The premiss behind this would be to increase the students understanding of mathematical reasoning and expressing mathematcal calculations in a written/linguistic form.
- For assigment tasks, implement the 'Clarifying the questions' criteria into the assignment from the Ergo research resources website. These steps include: Reading your assignment instructions, Writing down the question in you own words, identifiying key terms - maybe including definitions for tricky/unknow words. Possible assessment stratigies could include a back to back assigment comparison where students complete an assignment of their own accord, then complete the next using the above process. Compare both assignments to see if any improvments have been made.
